A Gold Coast lifesaver has faced court charged with rape after an alleged incident at a clubhouse.
The Australian Surf Lifesaving Championship competitor faced Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with one count of rape.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was supported by family for his first appearance and did not enter a plea to the charge.
Police allege the incident occurred on September 13 last year at a clubhouse on the Gold Coast's southern end.
He was remanded to return to court on March 30 for mention.
The lifesaver was stood down from competition and patrols after being charged.
"The alleged offender's Surf Life Saving Queensland's membership was suspended on February 11, 2021," a SLSQ spokesman confirmed to AAP.
"Surf Life Saving Queensland is conducting a formal review of specific policies and procedures relating to activities undertaken within clubs.
"The review will play an important role in identifying any opportunities to improve safety."
