Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk won't discipline first-term government MP Les Walker, after accepting his apology for getting into a fight at a Townsville pub.

"I have spoken to Les," the premier said in a statement on Thursday evening.

"He has apologised to me and I have accepted his apology."

"He will also apologise to his community," she added, in her first comments on the incident which occurred late last week.

"Everyone needs to act responsibly."

Mr Walker serves as a Temporary Speaker of Parliament and on the Transport and Resources Committee.

The Labor MP for Mundingburra was knocked out at about 1am on Saturday. He was hit during a fight with two men, aged 19 and 21, at the Mad Cow Tavern where he was celebrating his birthday.

The 56-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment but was later discharged and is recovering.

Police served Mr Walker with a public nuisance notice and banned him from the Townsville Safe Night Precinct, in the city centre, on Thursday.

The younger men have also been served public nuisance and banning notices.

Mr Walker, a former corrections officer, was elected to replace retiring Disability Services Minister Coralee O'Rourke at the November election.
