A woman in her 70s is fighting for life after she was hit by a police four-wheel-drive in far north Queensland.
Emergency services were called to the Cairns intersection about 7am on Thursday after the police car hit the woman.
Officers in the car gave her first aid before she was taken to Cairns Hospital with life‑threatening injuries.
It is believed three officers were in the vehicle, which was turning at the intersection when it hit her.
Motorists have been told to avoid the area while the Forensic Crash Unit investigates.
The case will also be examined by the Queensland Police Ethical Standards Command.
