Qld driver accused of targeting cyclists

A Queensland man will face court accused of deliberately driving at two cyclists. (AAP)

A Sunshine Coast man has been charged with attempted murder, with police alleging he deliberately drove at two cyclists in separate incidents.

A rider was thrown off his bike and suffered grazing to most of his body after a silver sedan "drove directly into" him at 10.45am on Thursday at Tanawha, Queensland Police said in a statement on Friday.

The same car rammed a vehicle a short time later at Woombye before "swerving deliberately" into another cyclist a short time later.

The second rider suffered significant injuries and was transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

The driver allegedly failed to stop and eventually crashed into a fence at Nambour, police allege.

A 23-year-old Noosaville man was taken into custody but not before he waded into a dam.

Police also believe he was involved in an earlier incident where he rammed a car at an intersection before driving through a red light.

As well as one count of attempted murder, the man has been charged with dangerous driving, obstructing police and failing to render assistance.

He was due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday.
