QLD:'Deep sorrow': community reeling after child found dead

A community is reeling after a child was found dead at a home, sparking a homicide investigation.

A 31-year-old woman is assisting police after a crime scene was declared at a residence at Lowood, west of Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to the house about 11.10pm on Monday, police said.

"A child was located unresponsive and declared deceased at the scene," a police statement said.

"A crime scene has been declared and investigations into the circumstances is underway."

Police said the 31-year-old woman assisting police with inquiries and the child were known to each other.

"However, we are unable to comment further on their relationship at this stage," the police said.

"There is no ongoing threat to the community."

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli sent his condolences to the child's family.
