QLD:Arrests follow alleged tomahawk attack, knife threat

Dramatic arrest footage has been released after police say a man was attacked with a tomahawk and residents threatened with a knife during a crime spree.

Vision released on Monday showed a suspected stolen car being surrounded by police and several people arrested before a sword is discovered in the vehicle.

Five people have been charged after a number of attempted armed robberies and a traffic crash in north Queensland, police say.

Two men - aged 23 and 21 - are accused of attempting to steal from a parked car in Townsville on May 18.

A 44-year-old man was attacked with a tomahawk by the 23-year-old when he tried to intervene, police say.

The two men and a 20-year-old woman then allegedly left in a stolen Nissan Murano before colliding with three parked vehicles and fleeing on foot.
