Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will head the ministerial team overseeing planning for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics following a swearing in ceremony at Government House.

Ms Palaszczuk took to social media to announce herself as the new Minister for the Olympics, to be supported by Deputy Premier Steven Miles as Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics Infrastructure.

Sport and Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe becomes Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics and Paralympics Sport and Engagement, while Treasurer Cameron Dick takes the trade and investment portfolio.

The premier said these were "small but necessary next steps" as Queensland counts down to 2032.

"Hosting the 2032 Games will generate $8 billion in economic and social benefits, in addition to 91,600 jobs," Ms Palaszczuk tweeted on Thursday.

"It is the catalyst for the biggest infrastructure program our state has ever seen with all levels of government co-operating to deliver projects on time."

Legislation to provide for the body responsible for delivering Games projects is expected to come before state parliament this month.

The appointments come as Brisbane prepares to host a welcome home event for Olympic and Paralympic athletes in King George Square on Friday.
