Bears coach Matt Nagy tries not to focus too hard on particular practice plays, but he couldn’t help but get excited when quarterback Mitch Trubisky found tight end Jesper Horsted down the seam during Saturday’s controlled scrimmage.
“I told [Trubisky] I just thought it was a hell of a throw,” he said. “Great vision, great anticipation. And you give a guy a chance to catch the ball and run, that’s all you can ask for. So that was a great play.”
He was less effusive about fellow quarterback Nick Foles’ interception. He believed that pressure forced Foles to pull back on his release and float the ball to safety Eddie Jackson.
He then praised Foles’ throw down the right sideline to Ted Ginn.
“Really, those are the type of throws that we look for, is: are these guys anticipating where that ball is going to be at — or really, I should say where the wide receiver is going to be at — and when you do that and you throw it on time, it really helps out the O-line. …
“I thought they both did a good job moving in the pocket, seeing the defense.”
The Bears did both live tackling and “thud” during the scrimmage. Pass rushers couldn’t touch either quarterback.
