QB Philip Rivers officially off table for Bears as he agrees to deal with Colts

There was never any serious link between Philip Rivers and the Bears, and he’s no longer an option anyway after agreeing to a one-year, $25 million deal with the Colts.

Rivers is an eight-time Pro Bowler and had a run from 2016 through ‘18 in which he threw 93 touchdown passes against 43 interceptions and posted a 96.1 passer rating. He fell off last season, at 38, and finished with an 88.5 rating.

With Rivers headed to the Colts, it could make quarterback Jacoby Brissett available for trade.

Brissett took over as Indianapolis’ starter when Andrew Luck abruptly retired last season. In 15 starts, he had 18 touchdowns, six interceptions and an 88 rating. He carries a $21.4 million salary-cap hit for 2020, with a dead-cap penalty of $12.5 million.
