QB John Wolford week-to-week after having appendix removed

When the Rams take the field for their first preseason game against the Chargers next Saturday, it won’t be John Wolford at quarterback. The Rams announced that Wolford is considered week-to-week after having his appendix removed.

He had the procedure done after waking up Friday with pain in his side, which was learned to be appendicitis. He missed practice and will be monitored over the next 10-14 days, sidelining him for potentially two weeks.

In his place, Bryce Perkins and Devlin Hodges will get reps with the backup offense behind Matthew Stafford, who will not play in the preseason. Assuming Wolford is ready for the regular season, this shouldn’t be a major concern since Stafford is healthy.

Sean McVay didn’t speak to the media Friday but offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell did. Here’s what he said about the quarterback situation in the interim.

“John obviously caught us a little bit off guard with that news. But obviously, we want to get him all fixed up and ready to roll as soon as possible. It’ll give Bryce and Duck a great opportunity just like they had today, short notice, ‘Hey, you guys are going with the twos. Be ready to roll because you guys know how it is.’”
