Qatar hotel has most expensive beer with jaw-dropping £26k price for World Cup final

A hotel in Qatar is offering probably the most expensive lager in the world on a £26,940 ($32,000) night out.

The jaw-dropping price gives exclusive access to the Amber Lounge at Le Royal Meridien in Doha on the night of the World Cup final. It includes drinks in a booth for 1-15 people, with music. There are various acts during the World Cup, though the one for the night of the final is yet to be announced.

They include a DJ called Jazzy Jeff, a disco act called Le Twins and former Liverpool footballer Djibril Cisse. The price for 15 guests to see him is £12,121 ($14,400). "The flamboyant Frenchman has been pursuing his passion for music, travelling the globe as a DJ," says an ad for the lounge.

On December 18, the night of the World Cup final, the price is £26,940, from 9pm to 3am for up to 15 people. Cher Ng, CEO of Amber Lounge said, “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing what is arguably considered the world’s most exclusive afterparty to Qatar in conjunction with the world’s biggest sporting event.

"We anticipate high-level demand, particularly with the likes of VIPs who are looking for the ultimate post-match party experience as well as bespoke VIP hospitality packages.”

Jeannette Tan, Group Managing Director of Amber Lounge, added: “Based on our sell-out events and hospitality experiences at Singapore Grand Prix and Monaco F1 this year, we played host not only to members of the F1 community but also ultra-high net worth individuals, corporate clients, crypto whales, celebrities and supermodels, smashing our 20-year record of delivering world-class VIP party and lifestyle experiences.”

FIFA announced beer would not be sold in stadiums just days before the tournament began (Getty Images)

A British bar in Doha has the cheapest deal for a pint. The Red Lion is offering beer at UK prices. James Bailey, owner of the Red Lion in Doha, is running a special offer of six pints of draught beer for £40.30 - or £6.72-a-pint.

The deal compares to £11.50 for less than a pint of Budweiser offered after 6.30pm in official FIFA fan zones. Just days before the tournament began, FIFA announced alcohol would not be sold in the stadiums hosting the games.

“Following discussions between host country authorities and FIFA, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the FIFA Fan Festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing sales points of beer from Qatar’s FIFA World Cup 2022 stadium perimeters," a statement read.

"There is no impact to the sale of Bud Zero which will remain available at all Qatar’s World Cup stadiums. Host country authorities and FIFA will continue to ensure that the stadiums and surrounding areas provide an enjoyable, respectful and pleasant experience for all fans.

"The tournament organisers appreciate AB InBev’s understanding and continuous support to our joint commitment to cater for everyone during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.”
