Are any BA flights departing or coming into Heathrow airport?
British Airways has cancelled all flights into and out of London's Heathrow airport until at least 6pm today as a result of strike action in support of sacked catering staff. Managing director at Heathrow, Mark Temple has said that there will be "significant disruption today and probably for several days to come" for BA passengers.
What should I do if my BA flight is due to leave before 6pm today?
BA advises customers due to travel before 6pm not to go to Heathrow airport, but to contact the airline or their travel agent to arrange a refund or rebook their flights.
Who should I contact for a refund?
You can contact your travel agent or contact British Airways by the following means:
· For paper ticket refunds call +44 (0)20 8564 2111 or fax +44 (0)20 8738 9353
· For electronic ticket refunds call 0870 8509850, option 3, quoting your booking reference
· Write to British Airways at: British Airways, Refunds Department (R46/HDA1), PO Box 365, Harmondsworth, Middlesex, UB7 0GB
My flight leaves after 6pm today, what should I do?
For departures after 6pm, BA recommends that customers check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport. You can do this by phoning the BA flight arrival and departure information number on 0870 55 111 55 (from the UK) between 06.00 and 21.45 or checking online here.
Can I rebook my flight?
British Airways staff are trying to book travellers on flights with other airlines where seats are available. The airline has said it will rebook flights for all customers affected by this industrial action, who are due to travel to or from Heathrow up to 23:59 on Monday August 15. To rebook your flight you can call British Airways' freephone number on 0800 767 800. You can also view British Airways rebooking policy online here.
My flight is not booked with British Airways but it is leaving from Heathrow, will it be affected?
Heathrow has posted the following advice on its website: "Other airlines handled by British Airways ground crew which will have flights indirectly affected include: Qantas, Sri Lankan Airlines, Finnair, GB and British Mediterrranean. While all other airlines at Heathrow are operating their normal schedules, there may be associated delays to some flights throughout the day, so passengers are advised to check with their airline before leaving home." You can contact Heathrow on their general enquiries line on 0870 0000 123 or for more detailed flight information and other contact numbers check online here.
I'm flying with BA, but using another UK airport. Will I be affected?
Other UK airports are not involved in the industrial action, although there may be some disruption as a result of Heathrow flights being rerouted.
Will I get compensation for my travel disruptions?
Under EU regulations introduced last year, passengers whose flights are cancelled or subject to long delays are entitled to food and drink, the choice of re-routing or a refund, and financial compensation, although you may not receive the latter if the delay is the result of "extraordinary circumstances" including political instability, bad weather, security risks, unexpected flight safety shortcomings and strikes. BA has said it will deal with compensation claims on a "case by case" basis. For further information detailing BA's compensation restrictions and eligibility click here.
