Indiana’s top high school football prospect in the 2020 graduating class is off the board. Carmel defensive tackle Cole Brevard, a four-star recruit according to 247sports.com, made his decision to commit to Penn State last week while on an unofficial visit for the Nittany Lions’ spring game.
I caught up with the 6-3, 305-pound Brevard to discuss his decision:
Question: What was it about Penn State that appealed to you the most?
Answer: “The alumni base is the largest in the world and I love the way Coach Spence (Sean Spencer), the defensive line coach, trains with the D-line, making them one of the best defensive lines in the country. And they’ve been a personal favorite of mine for a while.”
Q: What other schools were you strongly considering:
A: “Indiana and Wisconsin.”
Q: What made you decide now? Obviously have a lot of offers and choices. Did you plan on committing on the visit?
A: “I was leaning toward Penn State earlier before my commitment, but after some prayer and conversations with my family, that’s when I knew Penn State is the school I have to attend.”
Q: Through the recruiting process, what did they say they liked most about you as a player?
A: “They said they love my get off (at the line of scrimmage), how I am athletic for a nose tackle and my relentless effort to get to the ball.”
Q: Did you enjoy the recruiting process? Will you continue to visit other schools or consider it closed?
A: “I really enjoyed this recruiting process and I will take more visits to Penn State, but I am committed.”
Brevard picked Penn State over Indiana, Wisconsin and a collection of offers that also included Purdue, Clemson, Florida State, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee and others.
