George Bush is coming to Europe next week, but he's not stopping in Britain. Is it a diplomatic oversight? A snub? Is that any way to treat your most loyal ally and trusted military sidekick?
Or could it be - as one Observer editor suggests - that Bush is skipping London as a favour to Tony Blair. With an election campaign looming, the PM needs to start mobilising his party, but the grassroots loathe the Iraq war and Bush in equal measure. The Labour cause could probably do without more arm-in-arm photoshoots of Tony and George. And Downing Street could probably do without more pictures like this:
Perhaps George will send us a postcard from Berlin.
