Putrid remains of dead animals keep being dumped in a Newport car park

Putrid remains of dead animals are repeatedly being discarded and left to rot on a shopping street in Newport.

An office worker said the animal body parts are being left in the car park of the former Kwik Save supermarket on Commercial Road, in Newport.

She said she discovered the severed head of a lamb in car park earlier this week.

The decomposing head has remained at the site for several days and is giving off foul odors in the hot weather.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said she discovered the head earlier this week when she parked in the Kwik Save car park for work.

She said initially assumed the head was a "large piece of rubble" so avoided hitting it with her car.

It was only when she parked up and walked near it that she realised it was "some sort of decomposing animal head".

She said she saw seagulls had been pecking at it throughout the day.

"Due to the warm weather the smell from it has been stomach churning," she said.

"It seems to happen every few months. This is the second time we are aware of. However, staff who have worked longer in the area say its been going on for longer than that."

The woman said she hadn't seen any vehicles dropping off the animal parts in the car park.

But more waste appears every few weeks, usually after a weekend.

A Newport City Council spokeswoman said the Kwik Save car park is on private land.

She said: "Environmental health officers will investigate this incident.

"If a member of the public does witness such acts please report to the council."
