Police officers have been called to Putney station in southwest London over reports of a man on the tracks wielding a knife.

All trains through the railway station are currently suspended.

“Severe disruption at Putney...due to someone on the tracks,” said a spokesperson for Roehampton Police. ”Station is closed.”

British Transport Police (BTP) officers were called at 4.10pm following the report.

“Officers remain at the scene and are currently engaging with the suspect,” a BTP spokesperson said.

“The situation is contained however disruption to train services in the area is expected.”

Posts from social media users showed multiple emergency services vehicles and a helicopter near the station.

“Not sure [what’s] going on... helicopter & huge police presence,” wrote Alison Shore.

National Rail said that train services running between Clapham Junction and Barnes could be subject to cancellation or delays due to an incident involving a trespasser.
