Russian President Vladimir Putin understood the circumstances that forced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to postpone his visit to Moscow, a source in Tel Aviv said, adding that the two have agreed to meet again soon.

The Prime Minister’s Office said Putin and Netanyahu discussed 'regional developments' during a phone call on Thursday.

Netanyahu will meet with Putin in Moscow on Feb. 27, Netanyahu’s office said.

The two leaders were previously scheduled to meet this Thursday to discuss the situation in Syria, following a series of Israeli raids on Iranian targets there.

Israeli observers saw this meeting as an attempt by Netanyahu to boost his chances among Israeli voters of Russian origin.

With news circulating about forming an alliance against Netanyahu - which includes the Party of Generals and Yesh Atid, the Israeli PM had to cancel the meeting with Putin in a quest to form a right-wing coalition.

A Russian official decried Netanyahu’s stance since the meeting was for two days only, but the Russia president understood the PM’s position.
