Pussycat Doll to star in The Bodyguard at Sunderland Empire

Grammy-nominated singer Melody Thornton will be in Sunderland early next year starring in musical hit The Bodyguard as it stops off in the region on its UK tour.

The former Pussycat Dolls favourite-turned-solo artist will take the role made famous by Whitney Houston in the 1992 film which it's based upon. And the award-winning show - telling of a love affair between a famous singer and her protector - has made a Valentine's date with Sunderland Empire where it will run for a week in February 2023.

Melody shot to fame with the Pussycat Dolls and was the youngest member of the pop group which she left in 2010 to launch a solo career, releasing her debut EP Lioness Eyes in 2020. The performer, who appeared on ITV’s Dancing On Ice in 2018, has already earned rave reviews for her role as Rachel Marron in The Bodyguard which she played during a six-month tour of China.

The show is now a worldwide hit in its own right, having played to more than 3.6m people in 15 countries and 45 US cities. It will open at Sunderland Empire on February 13 and its run, taking in Valentine's Day on February 14, will end on February 18. For tickets see here.
