Puskas Award 2019: Andros Townsend's stunner against Man City nominated alongside Lionel Messi for Fifa prize

Crystal Palace star Andros Townsend has been nominated for Fifa's Puskas Award alongside Lionel Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic thanks to his stunning strike against Premier League champions Manchester City last season.

The Englishman's goal, which won Premier League goal of the season, came as Roy Hodgson's side claimed a stunning 3-2 win over City at the Etihad.

Speaking about his goal last season, Townsend said: "Everything about the game, the opponent, the strike, it was perfection.

"I think it was a strike like that needed to beat the champions away from home. I'm thankful it kind of dropped nicely for my left foot, I hit it clean and the rest is history!"

The ten nominees for the award include five-time Balon d'Or winner Messi, for a wonderful lob against Real Betis while Ibrahimovic's acrobatic effort for LA Galaxy against Toronto is also listed.

Three female players are also nominated for the award, which was last season won by Liverpool's Mohamed Salah for his Merseyside derby winner, and, since it's inception in 2009, has not been handed to an English player.

Fans can vote for their favourite goal until September 1 when a panel of 'Fifa Legends' will pick the winner from the top three.
