Pursuits, getaway drivers and cloned plates: Everything traffic police dealt with in our region last night

Traffic police in Greater Manchester dealt with several incidents on the roads last night - including cars on cloned plates and getaway drivers.

GMP said it was a 'busy night' for the force's traffic cops on Thursday night and into Friday morning.

In one incident, a Mercedes - believed to be stolen from West Yorkshire and suspected of being on cloned plates - was stopped on the M62 near Simister Island before a suspect was arrested.

In Bury, police said a transit van nearly hit officers already responding to another crash.

The van was then pursued before it tried to ram the police car.

The driver ran from the car in Heywood before a suspect was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving with no insurance, driving with no licence and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

In Tameside, two suspects were arrested after police spotted a Transit van suspected of being on cloned plates.

The van was chased before specialist officers stung it, grounding it to a halt after it lost most of its tyres.

The suspected driver was arrested for failing to stop, dangerous driving, failing to provide a sample of breath, disqualified driving, theft of motor vehicle.

They were also wanted for breach of court order.

A car in Gorton was spotted 'behaving suspiciously' and appeared to be in cloned plates, GMP said, so the driver was reported.

The vehicle was also seized.

GMP's Roads Policing Unit is currently recruiting more officers for their dedicated team. Click the link here for more information.
