Pursuit of Love viewers in hysterics as BBC ‘throws shade’ at Jacob Rees-Mogg

Viewers tuning into the second episode of The Pursuit of Love on Sunday evening were in hysterics due to one of the opening scenes.

As the BBC drama continued, fans of the show were given an update on Linda Radlett's current situation after marrying Tony Kroesig at the end of episode one.

Tony (Freddie Fox) was seen in Parliament as the voiceover of Fanny Logan explained: "Tony was working in his father's bank and preparing to step into a Conservative seat in the House of Commons... an ambition which was very soon realised."

Tony was then seen leaning back on the green seat, in a very obvious nod to the time Jacob Rees-Mogg reclined in the House of Commons back in 2019.

Lounging across around two and a half seats, the new Leader of the House of Commons and arch-Brexiteer Tory MP for North East Somerset appeared almost horizontal.

The leader of the House of Commons was heavily criticised by fellow MPs, who accused him of showing contempt for parliament as he reclined on the green benches.

Viewers thought the reenactment of the scene in The Pursuit of Love was hilarious and took to Twitter to comment.

"Seeing Freddie Fox do his best Jacob Rees-Mogg in the opening minutes has made episode two of #ThePursuitofLove," one person posted.

Another viewer tweeted: "Ha! #ThePursuitOfLove throwing shade at the hideous Rees-Mogg. Lovely."

A third asked: "Did he just sit like Jacob Rees-Mogg #ThePursuitOfLove," while a fourth added: "Love the nod to a reclining Rees-Mogg in ep2 of #ThePursuitOfLove."

A fifth viewer commented: "Rees-Mogg dig there. #ThePursuitofLove," while another said: "Oh my god, the JRM slouch in the House of Commons in #thepursuitoflove was perfection!"

Elsewhere in the latest instalment of the show, Linda (Lily James) was seen ending up with a new man named Christian as Tony began divorce proceedings.

The romance drama miniseries was written and directed by Emily Mortimer and is based on the novel of the same name by Nancy Mitford.

The Pursuit of Love continues on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
