I love trivial things. I also love placing what some might consider unnecessary levels of value on items that seemingly don’t deserve it — aka trinkets. And I’ve officially been influenced to purchase what might be my most life-changing trinket of all: a purse bowl.
The purse bowl is one of the latest life-hack trends to take over TikTok. It was coined by content creator, @cocotakes, and her video explaining her genius idea has amassed over four million views.
Basically, it’s a pretty bowl you keep in an easy-access spot where you dump all the shit from your bag at the end of the day. That way, if you’re swapping bags the next day, all your essentials are in the one place.
It sounds simple — because it is. And it’s fully changed my handbag etiquette.
There are two key details you need to know about me: I have a bag collection I’m very proud of (and I use all of them regularly), and I’m also chronically late. As you can imagine, this is a recipe for disaster. I don’t realise I’ve forgotten my Myki until I reach the train station at least once a week, never remember my sunglasses, and have a million lip glosses build up in each bag — yet somehow can never find the one I actually want.
Enter the purse bowl, and all these problems simply vanished. It was like this bowl had magically solved what my brain couldn’t comprehend. There was suddenly a dedicated spot to put all the contents of my handbag, and I no longer needed to spend five minutes running around the house wildly trying to find my keys or my wallet.
A purse bowl doesn’t have to exclusively exist for practical reasons. If it’s sitting in the entryway of your house (or kitchen, living room or bedroom), you want to jazz it up, right? There are some gorgeous decorative bowls around, itching to be snapped up and put to good use.
