Purple is a popular brand known for crafting mattresses and bedding designed to deliver pressure relief and responsive support for all sleepers. The GridCloud Pillow is Purple's latest launch, made with the same objective in mind.
We have previously reviewed the Purple Harmony, which we rate as one of the best pillows of 2025. The GridCloud looks and largely feels the same, but the construction and materials used are different.

The GridCloud is filled with down-like silicone-coated plush fibers, plus the brand's signature GelFlex Grid layer for enhanced responsive support. In simple terms, this feels like your head, neck and shoulders are held up by thousand tiny hands, delivering a cloud-like floating sensation.
The pressure relief feels soothing for the neck muscles which helps you drift into a peaceful slumber. Unlike Purple's adjustable pillows, the GridCloud comes in a single size and loft that's best suited to side and back sleepers.
In our tester's experience, its performance rivals some of the current best pillows for side sleepers, and has quickly become her new favorite.
Aside from the unavailability of size or loft options, another downside is the price. The full MSRP of a GridCloud pillow is $149, which puts it in the upper mid-range price bracket. However, don't let this put you off. Read our detailed test findings in order to make an informed decision...

Purple is a brand with quite a range of premium-priced pillows. Considering the brand's line-up, the GridCloud comes under the upper mid-range price bracket at $149.
For comparison, the Purple Harmony, which we've previously reviewed, starts at $209 for a queen and is the brand's second most expensive model after the ergonomic Purple Pillow (starting at $249).
The good news is that you can often find these on offer in Purple mattress sales where we've seen pillows with up to 20% off. However, the GridCloud was only available as part of a 10% discount bundle sale for Labor Day 2025, but we're anticipating a stronger saving when Black Friday rolls around at the end of November.
The GridCloud also comes with the brand's standard pillow benefits. such as a 30-night sleep trial, one-year warranty and free shipping. Apart from the official website, the GridCloud can also be purchased from third-party retailers like Amazon.
Purple GridCloud Pillow: Design & materials

While it looks quite similar to the Purple Harmony, the GridCloud is crafted differently to provide cloud-like comfort for side and back sleepers.
The pillow is filled with premium silky down-alternative fibers that deliver plush, hotel-like luxury comfort and soothing pressure relief. However, the secret to responsive support and lasting plushness is the additional silicone coating on these fibers, which prevents any flattening, so you won't sink into your pillow at any point.
This is topped with a light-purple honeycombed-shaped GelFlex Grid layer also found in Purple mattresses, which adds the brand's unique squidgy texture to the pillow, as well as increasing breathability. The GelFlex Grid is only found on one side of the GridCloud, so flipping your pillow might not be a wise option.
The entire pillow is enveloped in a soft white hypoallergenic cover which is also moisture-wicking — ideal for hot sleepers or those prone to night sweats.
The main downside is that it the GridCloud pillow is only available in a single standard size that might be insufficient for sleepers with broader shoulders, or those who prefer a king-size model.
Purple GridCloud Pillow: Performance
That's all the basics covered. Let's now get into gauging the overall performance of the pillow. For this, we slept on the Purple GridCloud Pillow for over two weeks and conducted a series of objective and subjective tests as per our pillow testing methodology. Here's what we found:
Set-up
The Purple GridCloud Pillow came in a cardboard box and sealed in an easily removable plastic bag. It came as a full-size pillow, requiring no expansion time — which also means no off-gassing, which is the smell you can occasionally experience when VOCs are released into the air.
The GridCloud was delivered ready-to-sleep, which translates to a stress-free experience.

Comfort and support
As a side and back sleeper, I found the Purple GridCloud to be incredibly comfortable. It strikes the right balance of plush softness, sink-in comfort and responsive support — all resulting in the perfect pillow for a dominant side sleeper like me.
The silicone coating on down-alternative fibers prevents any flattening so you get consistent support all throughout the night. It also arrives at the right loft, especially for side sleepers, bridging the gap between the ear and shoulders for comfortable sleep.
However, it may not be the right choice for stomach sleepers, partly because of the loft, which may be too tall for some, and also because the gel layer could lead to discomfort for others.
While the pressure relief cannot be compared to the Tempur-Neck Pillow (featured in the alternatives section below), the silky down-alternative fill combined with the squidgy GelFlex Grid gives a soothing feel to your neck, head and shoulders, gently contouring to your form for ultimate relaxation.
As an objective test of comfort and support, we also placed a 10lb weight (roughly equivalent to an adult head) on the center of the GridCloud pillow. We waited for five minutes and once removed, the pillow took about 10 seconds to spring back to its original shape, aligning with our sleep experience.

Temperature control
While testing the Purple GridCloud during these two weeks, I never woke up due to overheating or stuffiness. A major reason for that is the GelFlex Grid layer, which enhances the breathability and creates a comfortable surface to sleep on.
The moisture-wicking soft stretch cover also prevents any night sweats, keeping you fresh and comfy all night long.
However, if you're a very hot sleeper, it might be a better idea to opt for an actively cooling pillow, such as the Casper Hybrid with Snow Technology.

Purple GridCloud Pillow: Durability & care
Replacing your pillow every one to two years, is recommended for maximum support, comfort and restful sleep. You can also check for signs of wear and tear to gauge if it needs to be changed sooner.

Build quality
The two-week testing period is insufficient to entirely assess the build quality of a pillow, but based on how comfortably I slept on it and the nature of materials used, it is holding up rather well.
One thing I noticed right out of the packaging is how the stretch cover gives the pillow a somewhat squished appearance on the corners, compared to the traditional crisp look. However, this in no way interfered with the support and comfort when in use.

Care and maintenance
The maintenance of the GridCloud is fairly easy. The top stretch cover can be removed and washed in a cold gentle cycle and laid flat to dry while the gel layer can only be spot cleaned. The fiber fill should not be washed or cleaned.

Should you buy the Purple GridCloud Pillow?
Our lead tester is combination sleeper (side and back) who found the Purple GridCloud to be provide the right loft, support and pressure relief for these positions.
In her experience, the Purple GridCloud largely lives up to the brand's claim of delivering a feel like "sleeping on a cloud designed specifically for you."
If you're someone who likes a plush sink-comfort without the risk of the morning neck pain or discomfort, the GridCloud will fit the bill. Thanks to its GelFlex Grid layer and silicone coated fibers, you rarely have to remember to fluff this pillow up.
The grid layer contributes to a breathable sleep surface, but very hot sleepers might require a pillow with active cooling elements.
Yes, it is a pricey pillow at $149, but we think its natural down-like softness and feel make it worth your money. All in all, it's an ideal pillow for those who need a low maintenance hotel-like luxury sleep in the comfort of your home.

Don't buy the Purple GridCloud Pillow if...
❌ You're a stomach sleeper: The loft might be too tall and the squidgy GelFlex-Grid layer might not sit right with spinal alignment of the body in this position.
❌ You like flipping your pillow: If you're someone used to flipping your pillow every alternate day, you can't achieve this with the GridCloud since you'll lose out on the benefits of the GelFlex-Grid layer which is only added on one side.
❌ You have a tight budget: The most off-putting aspect is, however, the price. At $149, the GridCloud is indeed an expensive investment.
