PureGym breaks through the million member barrier

PureGym has broken the million members barrier to set a new record for gym membership in the UK.

The company has 1,012,000 members, up 9% from 927,000 in 2017. Revenues have grown 15% to £228.4 million from £198 million, with EBITDA of £73 million, up 14% from £64 million.

The company opened 30 new and converted gyms in 2018, including 26 organic openings and four Soho Gym conversions, taking the total to over 230.

PureGym ambassador Sir Chris Hoy is to launch a national relay on 18 June in Aberdeen, before joining the final stage of the Relay from Exeter to Plymouth on 25 June. The PureGym National Relay, partnering with Mental Health UK, brings together over 1,500 colleagues across PureGym's network gyms to take part in a seven-day, non-stop relay travelling via all major UK cities. The relay comes as PureGym celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year.

New ambassador Dina Asher-Smith, the Olympian and world's fastest woman in 2018, is joining Sir Chris as a supporter of PureGym.

PureGym was launched in 2009 and pioneered the model for affordable, flexible, high-quality fitness clubs in the UK. Members pay monthly and have no contract commitment. Most of its 235+ gyms are open 24 hours a day across the UK and offer a full range of equipment including cardiovascular equipment, fixed-resistance and free weights.
