'Pure Sabri-ball' - fans' delight as Nottingham Forest strengthen promotion spot

It’s been a long wait for Nottingham Forest supporters to see their side win at the City Ground.

Not since beating Leeds 2-0 at the start of February have the Reds tasted success in front of their own supporters, drawing one and losing two.

On Sunday afternoon, with fans restricted to watching from the comfort of their living rooms because of the Covid-19 guidelines, Sabri Lamouchi’s men romped to a 3-1 victory over Huddersfield to reignite their play-off bid having stuttered in previous outings.

The Reds hit the front just before the break when Lewis Grabban fired in an unstoppable volley from a clever Joe Worrall cross-field pass, before Grabban went through to make it 2-0 just moments into the second half, courtesy of Sammy Ameobi’s slide-rule ball.

It was three and game over when the lively Joe Lolley whipped in a teasing corner to the near post which was met by half-time substitute Ryan Yates to prod into the net in the 85th minute.

Forest’s clean sheet was lost when Worrall conceded what appeared to be a harsh penalty six minutes into stoppage time, with Karlan Grant firing past Brice Samba, leaving him rooted to the spot - the beleaguered visitors also had Juninho Bacuna dismissed for a lunge on Nuno Da Costa.

That win for Forest, their first since beating Cardiff in late February, sees them move above Fulham into fourth place, seven points adrift of West Brom in second and seven ahead of the chasing play-off pack, which includes Derby County and Bristol City, both of whom face the Reds in the coming week.

Here’s what Reds fans had to say after witnessing their side’s 3-1 success…
