'Pure concentration on the league': Bristol City fans react to Shrewsbury Town loss in the FA Cup

Bristol City fans were left wondering what could have been after their side missed out on an FA Cup tie with Liverpool, losing to Shrewsbury Town last night.

It wasn't to be in the FA Cup for Lee Johnson's men, who were so agonisingly close to reaching extra time before a Aaron Pierre strike in the 88th minute condemned them to an early exit.

There were chances for either side throughout the game but City were simply not clinical enough and their failure to convert chances into goals was what ultimately let them down.

Fans took to social media after the game with the majority gutted at missing out on the home time against the European champions. However, some saw the loss as an opportunity to focus on the a play off push in the league.

See how the fans reacted below.

City fan: Do you want a season ending the same as the last couple? Eddie will get us goals. Pure concentration on the league. Which is what is needed.

Matt Milkins: It's the cup, after the draw it was Shrewsburys biggest game ever. The game was always 50/50 be realistic. If we don't make the play offs this season then yeah it will be disappointing but trust me, we weren't gonna win the FA Cup.

Joanna Baggs: Shrewsbury should have won the first match.. Far play to them.. But City players and staff should hang their heads in shame.

Mathew Crossman: If you can’t perform with the prospect of Liverpool at home in the next round there is something very wrong.

Tash Withey: Supporting City is become a bit of a chore.

Biff: Disappointed by the loss but not too worried about not facing Liverpool, they would probably play the under 18s anyway.

Tommy Rowe of Bristol City (Rogan/JMP)

Mark Cornish: No shots on goal in the second half when the big game against Liverpool on TV is the reward for winning.

Mike Ham: So why aren't the players taking those easy chances? That's what I don't understand? What's going on in training? I know we struggle upfront that's what Afobe was for. He knew how to slot it in. Hopefully, if all is true, EN can do the same.

Steve Barry: Our support was great. Why can't we show that commitment on the pitch?

Con: Some fans are so quick to forget, yes, a poor result tonight but currently 1 point off the play offs, win on Saturday and we move.

Alexander Russel; Had enough chances to win the game. It’s no secret that we’re in the market for two strikers which we need to increase competition/give us alternatives to Fam.

Brett: We were not good enough and we're out. Simple as that. Too many games like this.

Mike Carey: What’s the plan to stop the rot lads?
