Sick attackers break puppy's jaw and dump body in supermarket bag

An RSPCA investigation has been launched after the body of a dead puppy with a broken jaw was found dumped in a lake in Liverpool.

The body of the six-week-old dog was discovered by a fisherman in Newsham Park on Monday, June 7.

The terrier-type puppy was 'cruelly' put in a supermarket bag for life and left on the edge of the lake.

An investigator has said that after being examined by a vet, it is clear that the puppy had its jaw broken 'deliberately.'

It was also left with bruising from an apparent attack before being 'discarded like rubbish.'

Animal rescuer inspector Andy Harris said: "The pup’s body was found in a supermarket bag for life and was on the edge of the lake.

"I took the body to the RSPCA’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital where a veterinary examination took place - and it was clear that the puppy had a broken jaw and some bruising around the body."

Andy is investigating the suspicious death of the male puppy and is appealing to the public for information. The puppy was not micro chipped.

He said: "It appears this poor pup has died in extremely suspicious circumstances and I’m keen to find out where he’s come from and who is responsible.

"I’d urge anyone with information to contact our emergency hotline on 0300 123 8018.

"I believe the puppy’s jaw was broken deliberately which is absolutely abhorrent.

"He also has some bruising so it seems to indicate this puppy was cruelly attacked before he was placed in a carrier bag and was discarded like rubbish."

The fisherman who found the body said the bag was not there the previous day so it is believed the puppy was dumped on Monday, June 7 before 6pm.

Anyone with information should call the RSPCA appeals line on 0800 123 8018.
