Puppy tied up in the snow howls out in terror as woman tries to rescue it

Heartbreaking footage shows an abandoned puppy letting out howls of terror as a woman attempts to rescue it from a frozen alleyway in St Louis, Missouri.

The injured dog was saved from near certain death after being found huddled next to a snow-covered pole in freezing cold conditions.

The gut-wrenching video shows the puppy yelping in high-pitched barks with its eyes clearly revealing its fear and panic at the situation.

Donna Lochman, from Stray Rescue of St Louis , approaches the frightened animal and manages to place a pink lead around its neck.

The young canine, now known as Weezer, is reluctant to follow but soon calms down when he realises he's no longer in danger.

Donna strokes the animal on the chin and tells it: "It's okay, we're going to get you nice and warm okay. Don't be scared, come with me".

The whimpering pooch then seems to completely relax as it recovers from the frightening ordeal in the front seat of Donna's car.

She wrote on Facebook : "This poor soul completely broke our hearts in two. He was shivering and screaming in fear."

Weezer was then examined the the shelter's vets and was estimated to be around seven-months old.

However, he needed urgent medical treatment when it was discovered he was suffering from a serious medical condition.

"He smells of infection from a wound on his side, and appears to have paraphimosis," Donna told dogheirs .

Paraphimosis is a urological condition where the retracted foreskin of a dog cannot return to the normal position.

Thankfully, Weezer is now on the path to recovery and will hopefully be adopted by a new family.

“Weezer left today for a medical foster home where he can continue healing and resting until he’s ready to be adopted,” Stray Rescue wrote.

“He’s so happy he wouldn’t stop kissing his new foster mama Syl!”
