It would seem that the States are always one step ahead when it comes to the latest trends and one that's really dividing the dog community is the idea of a 'puppy shower'.
Following the similar principles of a traditional baby shower, friends and families gather to welcome a new dog or puppy into the family and celebrate their new home.
Although there seem to be no unwritten rules when it comes to these parties, they tend to include party games, gifts and lots of treats for not only the guest of honour but all the other dog families in attendance.
Whether they are only a puppy or an older rescue finding their forever home, a puppy shower has no age limit and can be thrown for any new member of your dog family.
While many may think the idea may be excessive or would not be on board with the idea for their family, puppy showers can also prove to have great benefits for the future.
Aside from any new toys or treats gifted in the celebrations, they have practical purposes such as helping to kick off your puppy’s socialisation process by introducing them to the humans and other dogs, who will be a part of their life, according to DogTime.
While these types of celebrations are fun for both dog families and the pups in attendance, remember that it is easy for new dogs to get overwhelmed in new settings and with new people they are not familiar with.
They also highlighted how if the dog is at an impressionable age, a scare can turn into a deep-seated fear so make sure the experience is 'joyous yet manageable'.
