Puppy's surgery saved his eyes but he's still in need of a special visor

Bruno the Neapolitan Mastiff puppy has had eye surgery which saved his sight - but the eight month old is still in need of a special visor.

The gorgeous dog suffered with inverted eyelashes, which caused two large lumps beneath eyes.

Before undergoing the eye surgery at Staffordshire rescue centre Animal Lifeline, the pup found himself needing rescue after his previous owners couldn’t afford the surgery, having not known about his condition when they welcomed him into the family.

He’s since had one operation to remove the lumps - and will need a second in the near future, says TeamDogs.

Thankfully, the puppy has already found a new home, but won’t be able to live there until his eyes are fully healed.

Now, Animal Lifeline is raising money to help cover the cost of the vet bill, as well as the cost of a much needed visor for Bruno to wear, which will protect his eyes without the need for a cone or collar.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “Bruno came into our care around a month ago and was taken to the vets for a very obvious eye problem where we were told he needed surgery.

“The cost of the operation already has been very expensive, with another one still to come, but he’s worth it.

"Any donations towards his growing vet bills would be greatly appreciated - and Bruno will give you a big slobbery kiss!

“We’re really happy to know he has a new home waiting for him, but he needs to take some recovery time before he can join them and start living his puppyhood.

"Animal Lifeline will still be supporting his costs throughout.”

What is entropion?

"Entropion is when an eyelid rolls in towards the eyeball, causing fur and eyelashes damage the surface of the eye," says PDSA.

"Entropion is very painful and often causes conjunctivitis, eye infections and eye ulcers. Entropion often affects both eyes. Left untreated, entropion can cause severe pain, scarring and even loss of an eye."
