Puppies treated to 'best day ever' at deserted aquarium with humans on lockdown

Two adorable puppies were treated to the 'best day ever' when they were given free roam of an aquarium while it was closed to the public.

Although lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic is looking pretty glum for most of us, siblings Odie and Carmel took full advantage to make 'lots of new friends'.

The day was organised by the Atlanta Humane Society (AHS), which gave the woofers a VIP behind-the-scenes tour while the Georgia Aquarium, like many other venues, was forced to close its doors.

It shared a sweet video of the two friends bounding through the aquarium while having a look at the fishes and being dwarfed by some huge sharks.

Odie and Carmel were given special access to the venue (Atlanta Humane Society)

The footage went viral, as the video racked up more than 100,000 likes and 35,000 retweets, proving to be the feel-good story everyone needed right now.

AHS captioned the two-minute clip : "Our puppies just had the best. day. ever.

"They got to explore the Georgia Aquarium while it is closed to the public. They made all sorts of exciting discoveries and lots of new friends!"

The pair of pups were popular with the residents (Atlanta Humane Society)

It looks like the feeling was mutual, as staff at the aquarium replied to say: "Thanks for stopping by! So glad Odie and Carmel got to make some new fish friends. Hope they enjoyed their puppy field trip."

It also tweeted to say: "Siblings Odie and Carmel are two of the many dogs from AHS currently residing in loving foster homes.

"Like us, AHS is dedicated to providing the best care for their animals during this time."

It then asked people to see if they can help any of their new friends by visiting the AHS website.

The new partnership proved too much for some, with one replying to say: "I absolutely love this! Thanks so much for spreading joy."

Another joked: "They are so uninterested in the fish," as the AHS replied: "It takes a lot to impress a puppy ;)."
