A litter of six new-born German shepherd puppies were found buried alive by police.
The Spanish Civil Guard discovered the dogs at a farm in the Bajo Aragon region of northeast Spain following a tip-off from a member of the public.
The tiny animals were said to be days away from death when they were rescued in 9 August, according to the newspaper El Comercio.
Two adult German shepherds were also found nearby, including a female who showed signs of having recently given birth.
Officers reunited the puppies with their mother so they could breastfeed.
According to Euro Weekly News, two people were handed over the courts on suspicion of “crime against flora, fauna and domestic animals”.
