West Lothian primary school pupils have come up with an innovative way to tackle dog-fouling in the local area.
West Lothian Council’s Cleaner communities team have been working with a number of primary schools to create dog bag dispensers for the use of dog walkers.

Parkhead Primary in West Calder have been one of the schools involved in the scheme which started as a response to irresponsible dog walkers who refuse to clean up after their dog.
The schools’ primary two pupils have turned empty two litre plastic drinks bottles into bag dispensers which will be placed at key points around West Calder
It is hoped that these will be used by dog walkers who might not have a bag at their disposal.

Executive councillor for the environment, Tom Conn, said: “I would warmly thank the pupils involved for this great initiative which will provide ample opportunity for dog walkers to clear up after their dog.
“West Lothian Council already provides a range of sites where customers can deposit dog fouling in a responsible manner so there is really no excuse.
“It is against the law for anyone who is responsible for a dog to not clean up after the dog has fouled.”
