Pupils self-isolating at Ayrshire secondary as Covid contact tracing is launched

Covid contact tracing has been launched at an Ayrshire secondary school.

It's understood that a number of Kilwinning Academy pupils are now self-isolating after Public Health officials launched the exercise.

Today, NHS Ayrshire & Arran officials said that every measure was being taken to protect pupils and staff.

Elvira Garcia, consultant in Public Health said: "NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Test & Protect team is currently conducting a contact tracing exercise with links to Kilwinning Academy in the North Ayrshire Council area.

"Close contacts identified through this process are being advised to self-isolate for 10 days by the Test and Protect Team.

"We appreciate this is a very worrying time. However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect pupils and staff.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time."

Health chiefs would like to remind people of the symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19): new persistent cough; high temperature; and / or loss of taste and smell. Anyone who develops any of these symptoms should book a test and self-isolate immediately.

Everyone in Ayrshire and Arran is reminded to remember the FACTS guidance:

F – Face coverings. These should be used in shops and on public transport (buses, trains and taxis).

A – Avoid crowded places.

C – Clean your hands frequently, using water & soap whenever possible.

T – Two metres – observe physical distancing.

S – Self-isolate and book a test if you are suffering from COVID-19 symptoms.
