Pupils in West Lothian report technical issues as home schooling begins in West Lothian

Some school pupils in West Lothian could not get online this morning as home schooling began.

Pupils have to use the Microsoft Teams platform to communicate with other children and teachers and share resources.

However, many reported that they could not get onto the website and children were left idle with nothing to do.

A spokesperson from Linlithgow Academy said: “We know that some students are having problems with Teams this morning. This is most likely due to increased usage across the country today. The desktop app is a bit more stable so if you can download that it may help a bit.”

Education Scotland are said to be aware of the “some issues at national level” but say that they expect the issue to be fixed quickly.

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “It is to be expected that there will be a relatively small number of issues with digital platforms, particularly on the first day back following the holiday period.

“We understand that some learning platforms across the UK are being slightly impacted this morning, however the majority of West Lothian schools are reporting that learning is going very well.”

At her daily briefing today Nicola Sturgeon said that they are working on the issue, alongside Microsoft.

Ms Sturgeon also took the time to thank parents, teachers and pupils for their efforts during the pandemic.
