Pupils evacuated as firefighters tackle blaze at Clackmannanshire school

A fire broke out on the grounds of Alva Primary this afternoon (Thursday).

What was described as a “small fire” sparked what was claimed to be panic around lunchtime with many parents taking to social media to ask what was happening.

It’s believed that the head teacher of the school emailed parents detailing the incident and asking them not to make their way to the school unless advised to do so.

Clackmannanshire Council took to Twitter to say that there was " no need for parents to come to the school" and thanked the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland for their support.

Police say the blaze did not appear suspicious and all pupils and staff were safe and had been evacuated.

There were reports of a number of fire engines at the location with smoke spotted coming from the school grounds.
