Pupils at North West Community Campus have helped raise thousands of pounds for charity and a bench to commemorate a former teacher who died of cancer.
Carol Carruthers spent nine years at St Ninian’s and two at NWCC in nursery, primary and nurture roles. She lost her battle with illness in June last year.
Primary and nursery pupils have raised funds for a buddy bench in Carol’s memory for the playground with money left over donated to Maggie’s, as chosen by her family.
On June 22 pupils wore orange for Maggie’s and took part in a sponsored “marafun” made up of 13 classes walking, running, dancing or skipping 22 laps of the playing field to make up the 26 miles. Nursery kids walked around their garden.
There were also activities throughout the day with an outdoor assembly about memories and painting positivity stones and making bunting with positive messages. Youngsters sang You’ve Got a Friend in Me before enjoying a tip top and orange donated by Anne Croucher at Tesco.
In total £3,800 was raised with big thanks going to pupils, parents, staff and the school community.
The bench has now been placed in the playground to honour Carol.
“We are so grateful for the donations for the bench and the cash raised for Maggie’s will enable them to continue to help so many others like Carol.”
