Pupils are little rays of sunshine in fundraiser for East Kilbride hospice

Pupils at an East Kilbride primary school were a ray of sunshine in aid of a local hospice.

Youngsters at Heathery Knowe Primary took part in the Kilbryde Hospice Sunflower Walk this week and welcomed Hope - the hospice's mascot - to launch the event.

She did a walk around the outside of the nursery and school building waving and dancing to all the classes.

Teacher, Audrey Spence, told Lanarkshire Live : "Over two days the children completed the sponsored walk in the rain and the sunshine with smiles on their faces.

"They were all presented with a medal which was donated by the hospice to recognise their achievement.

"Hope will return to the school before the summer holiday to receive a cheque from the children.

"Children were also gifted a sunflower seeds and compost from Stewartfield Morrisons and the pots were kindly donated by one of our P1 parents.

"The event was a huge success. Hopefully it's the start of an annual event."
