Pupil tests positive for coronavirus at Nottingham school

A pupil has tested positive for coronavirus at a Nottingham school.

Pupils in one class at Oak Field School, in Wigman Road, Bilborough, are self-isolating as a result.

A statement on the school's website read: "Class 7 at Oak Field School is temporarily closed as a result of a pupil testing positive for Covid-19.

"Pupils in this class should now self-isolate at home until Thursday, October 8.

"We have taken this decision in line with government guidance.

"If pupils feel unwell with Covid-19 symptoms, we would urge parents to obtain a test for them.

"We will continue to work closely with Public Health England, the DfE, Nottingham City Council, and the Nottingham Schools Trust throughout this time."

Meanwhile, across the border in Derbyshire, Chaucer Infant and Nursery School, in Cantelupe Road, Ilkeston, has sent an entire year group home after one of them tested positive for the virus.

The school sent Year Two pupils home on Tuesday (September 29), reports Derbyshire Live.

Dozens of schools in Nottinghamshire have now been affected by coronavirus since reopening for the new term.

Positive cases in teachers and students, along with others showing symptoms, have led to certain ‘bubbles’ of pupils being sent home to self-isolate.

The first reported case was at Mellers Primary School in Radford after two staff members tested positive. The school was closed for Year One and Three students until September 21. It has since reopened.

Since then, more than 40 other schools have announced changes enforced by the pandemic.
