Pupil parliamentarians show Holyrood counterparts how it's done

Society has a bright future if the pupils of St Mary’s Primary School in Bannockburn are anything to go by.

While the Scottish Parliamentary elections are keeping the older generation of politicians busy at the moment, the Pupil Parliament at St Mary’s has been busy in other ways.

Teacher Kirsty Halliday said: “The Pupil Parliament met after returning to school to take forward an idea of donating to a local food bank to help those in need over the Easter break.

“All of our MSPs (Members of the School Parliament) created videos/posters to share on our Twitter account and their Google Classrooms to promote the appeal.

“A box was placed outside the school to collect donations and these were quarantined safely before being delivered to Start Up Stirling.

“Thank you to everyone who donated to our appeal, it was hugely appreciated.”

Start Up Stirling said: “Thank you St Mary’s Primary School Parliament and to all those who contributed for your generosity.”

The Pupil Parliament has been instrumental in a number of initiatives since being elected last year.

In November almost £4000 was raised in a whole school sponsored walk organised by the young MSPs. Most of the funds were donated to cancer charities, with a smaller sum invested in the school’s playground.
