Pupil at East Kilbride high school tests positive for COVID-19

South Lanarkshire Council have confirmed a pupil at Calderglen High in East Kilbride has tested positive for COVID-19.

It follows a letter from NHS Lanarkshire being sent to parents and carers yesterday.

The letter states that the test and protect team have been carrying out contact tracing for an individual and Calderglen High School and the person affected is currently self-isolating at home.

But it goes on to say there is "no evidence currently to suggest that there is transmission in the school" and that the "risk to the wider school community is low".

And the letter states that SLC have put in place infection prevention and control measures but reminds people that physical distancing measures must be adhered to.

It follows cases of COVID linked to St Leonards and Greenhills primaries and St Andrew’s and St Bride’s High as well as Duncanrig Secondary.

A spokesman for South Lanarkshire Council said: "We can confirm that a pupil at Calderglen High has tested positive for Covid-19.

"We continue to work closely with NHS Lanarkshire, which leads on the handling of all cases where COVID-19 is suspected or confirmed.

"Appropriate action has been taken and information on this has been relayed to all parents, carers and staff.

"We would stress that there is currently no evidence of transmission in the school and the risk to the wider school community has currently been assessed as low. The school will therefore remain open.”
