May 13--A small dog got trapped under an SUV on the Kennedy Expressway but was rescued and trotted away to its owner, according to Illinois State Police.
The driver of the dark-colored SUV had slowed down and then stopped when she saw the small dog while driving south near Addison Street around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Trooper James Gawel of the state police's Chicago district.
The dog darted under the SUV and became trapped underneath. "Its collar got hooked underneath some part of the car," Gawel said.
State police alerted Illinois Department of Transportation crews, which got to the scene along with workers from the Department of Animal Care and Control.
Animal care workers using a long pole were able to get the dog free, and it trotted over to an animal care van. By then, the owner showed up and put the dog on a leash, said Gawel.
Gawel said he didn't know the dog's condition but said it was definitely alive and reunited with its owner.
"It's seems like it's doing well,'' Gawel said.
