Punter shows off €201 receipt after 'wild' 105 minutes in Galway bar

A punter showed off a monster receipt spending over €200 on drinks and some food in Galway city on Wednesday night.

The group of three spent 105 minutes racing through 15 pints before ordering two pitchers of Long Island cocktails and three Jager bombs to go.

The punter, who didn't wish to be named, booked a table in An Pucan, in Galway city centre, with his housemates after months locked down together.

The excitement surrounding the beginning of Phase Three of reopening Ireland this week was palpable as pubs serving food could reopen.

The Galway crew who racked up this huge bill ensured they were keeping to government guidelines by ordering three meals, bangers and mash, bacon and cabbage and an 8oz burger.

The excited customer told the Irish Mirror: "We've been cooked up at home for so long we just had to book a place this week.

"We would regularly spend a night in a pub here in the city centre after a long week working and we missed it a lot.

"So, after a few months saving, we thought 'Why not splash out on a night together?'"

He added: "The new system was actually surprisingly simple. It's a little different but a lot better than being at home.

"It was hard to get used to but everything ran smoothly."

Currently, pubs must serve food at a minimum order of €9, however, all pubs may reopen as Phase four opens up even more of the country from lockdown.
