A lucky punter who put his biggest ever bet of £5 on a 21-team accumulator has landed an incredible £229,246.71 win.
The punt came good as Real Madrid beat Real Sociedad last Saturday night after 20 other correctly predicted results – with all but four of the winners odds-on favourites.
The man in his 40s from Essex placed the bet online with William Hill earlier this month for the second big Essex clearout for the bookie in two years.
A woman of 59 from the county won over £570,000 from a £1 bet in 2017. And last week a 50p bet at the South Ockendon branch won £22,000.
William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: “It gives a whole new meaning to TOWIE – at William Hill HQ it’s The Only Win Is Essex.”
He is not the only person in the Uk enjoying an early Christmas present.

He has a total of £36,000 saved in his winning account.
The second jackpot winner is a man from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, whose winning Bond number is 210SF254870.
He purchased his winning bond six years ago in August 2013, and holds the maximum amount - a total of £50,000.
In total this December, 3,444,075 in prizes worth £98,443,125 will be paid out to lucky winners.
