An Irish punter has promised to buy Shamrock Rovers keeper Alan Mannus a pint after his heroic saves helped him become over €47,000 richer.
The Dubliner put on €5 bet at a Paddy Power shop in Liffey Valley last Saturday that he could predict the scores of four different football matches.
The first of the accumulator came in when Linfield beat 2-0 Tre Fiori in a Champions League qualifier in the afternoon.
Next up was Barcelona to beat Napoli 3-1 at odds of 10/1 and Bayern Munich to beat Chelsea 4/1 at 14/1.
But the backer was left sweating when Shamrock Rovers, having come from 1-0 down to lead 2-1 as per his prediction, faced a late rally from Derry City on Sunday evening.
The Hoops and the punter had Mannus to thank as the Rovers shotstopper pulled off a stunning double-save to deny Ciaron Harkin and Eoin Toal deep in injury-time.
The stunning bet had odds of 8580/1 and with a bonus included saw the punter take the bookies to the cleaners to the tune of €47,189.50.
Showing off his betslip on Twitter, the punter wrote: "I think I owe you a pint for that last minute save Alan [Mannus]."
Spokesman Paddy Power said: “It sounds like the only thing Alan Mannus didn’t save the other night was us a few quid – but it’s hard to begrudge the punter the win for his inspired bet.
“Some Rovers fans are calling for a statue of the keeper to be put up in Tallaght. I’d say this punter could afford to fund it now.”
