PUNK-poet legend Patti Smith is coming to the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on Saturday April 18 as part of her extended Bluesfest sideshow tour.
The Newcastle show and a third Melbourne date were added to the tour on Tuesday due to high demand for the 73-year-old, who remains one of the most influential figures of the '70s New York punk scene.
Smith and her band last toured Australia in 2017 when she headlined Byron Bay's Bluesfest, but that trip didn't feature a Newcastle sideshow.
"The Godmother of Punk" burst onto the rock scene in 1975 with the release of her debut album Horses.
The John Cale-produced record melded basic rock'n'roll with beat poetry through Redondo Beach and Free Money, and her iconic expanded cover of Van Morrison's Gloria.
Horses is credited with influencing a host of rock's elite including REM, The Smiths, Hole, Garbage and PJ Harvey.
Smith continued to write some of most influential music of the '70s including the hit Because The Night, co-written with Bruce Springsteen.
The 2007 Rock'n'roll Hall of Fame inductee has continued to push boundaries throughout her career and in November she released the experimental album Mummer Love, in collaboration with the Soundwalk Collective.

Meanwhile, Bluesfest have also announced '90s pop-grunge icon Alanis Morissette will perform her classic album Jagged Little Pill in its entirely at the Easter music festival in Byron Bay.
It's been 25 years since Jagged Little Pill was released, selling more than 33 million copies and earning the Canadian singer five Grammy Awards.
The album features Morissette's best-known songs You Oughta Know, Ironic and Hand In My Pocket.
