Punk poet legend Patti Smith cancels Newcastle show

SIDESHOW: Patti Smith and her band will play the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on April 18.

IT was a surprise for punk legend Patti Smith's fans when she announced a visit as part of her Bluesfest tour in April.

Now they've received a much less pleasant second shock.

Ticketek emailed ticketholders on Friday morning, informing them the Newcastle Entertainment Centre show scheduled for April 18 would not proceed.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances Patti Smith will no longer be performing in Newcastle," the company said.

"You can catch her in Sydney, Melbourne and Bluesfest Byron Bay."

The cost of tickets would be automatically refunded to credit cards used for payment, Ticketek said, but the transfer may take up to 10 days.

Those who purchased at agencies will be contacted within the same timeframe. ted.

Patti Smith, 73, last toured Australia in 2017.
