Punk band Turnstiles win inaugural Star Nation music competition in Whelan's

Punk band Turnstiles won the first ever Star Nation music competition after belting out a blistering performance in the final in Whelan's last night.

The Galway band - performing as the Connacht finalists of the contest - saw off stiff competition for the title from Riley Holland, DALY and Clara Belle - the provincial finalists from Ulster, Leinster, and Munster.

As a prize, the provincial finalists will now receive a one-day recording session at the world-renowned Windmill Lane Recording Studios, famous for their association with U2, as well as global acts such as David Bowie, Lady Gaga, and The Rolling Stones.

Dublin was represented by talented Finglas rapper DALY (real name Aaron Daly) who was performing as the Leinster finalist of the Miller beer / Four Star Pizza sponsored comp after being chosen for his song ‘Everything will be OK’.

Overall winners Turnstiles also picked up an additional cheque of €3,000 worth of musical equipment from Irish music store MusicMaker, whose customers include the likes of Blondie, Muse and Manic Street Preachers.
