Punjab: Undertrial prisoner escapes from Rajindra hospital in Patiala

PATIALA: An undertrial prisoner in drugs cases who was brought to Government Rajindra hospital Patiala for treatment managed to escape from the police custody on Saturday.

The police have identified the accused as Amrik Singh who was lodged in Central Jail Patiala and was facing three cases of NDPS Act. The police officials revealed that the accused inmate was brought to the government hospital on Friday night and was supposed to undergo a medical examination by Saturday morning but somehow, he managed to escape from the hospital.

The jail officials revealed that the accused Amrik Singh was landed in a clash with another jail inmate Malkit Singh and had sustained some injuries following which he was recommended to undergo X-ray examination. The jail officials revealed that both the inmates were facing cases under sections of NDPS Act and had a fight over some issue.

Sub Inspector JS Kahlon, Station House Officer Civil Lines Patiala police station, said, “The inmate was brought to hospital under police custody but managed to escape. None of the cops on duty were injured but the matter was being probed by the senior officials”.
