BATHINDA: More than a year after being fired and reinstated upon appeal, two Moga cops - assistant sub-inspector Prabhdyal Singh and head constable Gurwinder Singh - were booked on Saturday for helping gangster Sukhdool Singh 'Sukha Duneke' flee to Canada in 2017 on forged documents.
The Moga police have booked the two cops along with Duneke under several sections. They had helped the gangster get police clearance certificate for a passport even though he faced seven criminal cases. The cops are on the run.
ASI Prabhdyal was Moga's passport inquiry officer in 2017, while Gurwinder was posted at the rural police station. They cleared Duneke in passport verification, which helped him obtain a Canadian visa and flee India the same year. He is accused of running his gang from Canada. Contacted, Moga senior Superintendent of police Gulneet Singh Khurana said: "Duneke had conspired to kill Kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian in March."
The SSP also said: "The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) suspects that he funded the Devinder Bambiha gang and joined pro-Khalistan forces. Since he fled to Canada, he has been booked for dozen more crimes in Punjab and elsewhere. The cops were fired in April 2021 after departmental inquiry but the DIG reinstated them upon appeal." Prabhdyal is posted at Himmatpura village checkpoint, while Gurwinder is ar the district police lines.
